The founders of Vircan came to us with a clear mission: to create an African brand identity design that reflects their deep connection to the continent. Their vision for the business was rooted in African heritage, but with a strong focus on innovation. Our challenge was to develop a visual identity that communicated their commitment to transforming Africa’s financial landscape with integrity and purpose. They’re driven by impact, the need to challenge outdated systems, and by a belief that Africa’s financial landscape can be transformed through integrity and innovation.
The name Vircan fuses the astrological signs – Virgo and Cancer. Virgo’s precision and analytical focus shape Vircan’s commitment to data integrity, whereas Cancer’s intuition and adaptability reflect its dedication to financial growth and trust. Combined, these qualities create a leadership dynamic that’s strategic and empathetic. This foundation shapes Vircan’s visual system.

Defining Vircan’s Visual Voice
Our creative journey with Vircan began with in-depth research. We explored their industry landscape, competitor branding, and target audience expectations, and we identified the concept of Akan weights as a natural foundation for their brand identity: small brass weights historically used by the Akan people of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire to measure gold in trade.
We chose these weights as a fitting symbol. Akan weights ensured accuracy and trust in transactions, just like Vircan’s brand reflects precision and integrity. Their stunning geometric patterns informed our design, an identity that’s rooted in African heritage and forward-looking in its execution.


A Symbol of Wealth, Knowledge, and Trust
Building upon this foundation, we introduced the concept of the clay vessel. Traditionally used across African cultures to store and protect precious resources, the clay pot became the perfect metaphor for Vircan’s role as a trusted financial partner. Beyond wealth, it also symbolises knowledge and wisdom, reinforcing Vircan’s dedication to data integrity and financial growth.
We re-imagined this traditional form into a modern identity, a timeless symbol of prosperity, trust, and excellence.

With the Akan weights and clay vessel as core inspirations, we developed a brand language that seamlessly blends tradition with modernity. The colour palette conveys stability and growth – deep, grounding tones balanced with accents of warmth and vibrancy. Typography and iconography were carefully selected to communicate clarity, trust, and expertise, ensuring that every visual element reinforces Vircan’s role as a custodian of financial knowledge.
